2022 Mazda CX-5: price and technical specifications

Performance and fuel consumption

Depending on selected version, you will have access to one of two 2.5 L Skyactiv-G engines.  The first is a naturally aspirated 4- cylinder engine with 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft. maximum torque.  Thanks to cylinder deactivation, fuel consumption can be as low as 7.9 L/100 km!

Standard on the Signature version and optional on the Sport Design version, a turbocharged engine gives you increased performance and power, reaching 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft. maximum torque.  However powerful it may be, fuel consumption remains under a 10 L/100 km average. 

Now standard on all versions, the i-Activ all-wheel drive improves stability and traction on all road conditions, and this is true for the G-vectoring control plus system as well.  I-Activ technology utilizes sensors that automatically scan the surrounding area 200 times per second.  Saying it is reactive would be an understatement; safer to say it is quite proactive.

Starting on the Kuro version, a new intelligent drive select system called the Mi-Drive, will allow you to select driving modes, like normal, sport or off-road.

Interior design

Recognizable and unforgettable, the Mazda SUV boasts the Kodo design, both aerodynamic and graceful.  On the new GX version you will find 17- inch wheels, and 19- inch wheels for all superior versions.  

The Kuro edition stands out with its color options:

• Jet Black Mica;
• Snowflake White Pearl;
• Polymetal Grey Metallic;
• Soul Red Crystal Metallic.

When it comes to the Sport Design, it stands out with black elements such as metallic black alloy wheels, black mirrors, bumpers and trims.  Inversely, the Signature version’s bumpers are in the same color as the body.

Interior Design

Year after year, the Japanese manufacturer keeps making the CX-5 better and better, by adding improvements to each version.  You are sure to be quickly seduced by its comfortable seats, cutting-edge technologies and incredibly quiet and smooth driving experience.

On the GS version, heated front seats and a leather upholstered heated steering wheel come as standard equipment.  The rest of the upholstery is in faux leather with suede trims here and there.  You will also have lumbar support with 6 electric settings.

For higher-end versions (and starting with the Kuro version), you will find genuine leather upholstered seats.  The driver will have access to a driver’s seat with 10 electric settings and a memory function with 2 positions.  Once we reach the GT version, heated rear seats and ventilated front seats are added to the standard equipment, for extra comfort for all.

The Kuro stands out with its Garnet Red Leather seats, unless you prefer Black leather with red stitches as an option.  For the Signature version, you will find sublime Cocoa Nappa leather seats and Abachi wood trims on the inside of the doors.

Technology and Safety

For the 2022 model-year a brand new infotainment system is added, as well as a 10.25- inch central screen including the latest Mazda Connect system.  You will have wireless access to Android Auto^md and Apple CarPlay^md, voice recognition and much more.

The GT version also adds a wireless charger and a 10- speaker Bose sound system for an immersive audio experience.

When it comes to driver assist technologies, the Japanese manufacturer proves very generous.  The i-Activsense package is standard equipment and includes several safety features:

• Radar Cruise Control technology;
• Smart Brake Support;
• Distance Recognition Support system;
• Forward Obstruction Warning;
• Lane Keep Assist;
• Lane Departure Warning system.

You would like an even smoother driving experience? Smart City Brake Support is added to the Sport Design, while in the Signature version you will have access to a whole other package with park assist, including a 360 degree camera.
